To check the problem of e-waste, Bangalore -based Wipro Technologies will soon come out with a road map to shed out chemicals from its products. Wipro has made a commitment that with in the next six months, it will have a detailed road map to tackle e-waste, campaigner Ramapathi of green peace told this paper on Monday. The decision comes on the heels of the regulation introduced in August, that lays the onus on electronic and electrical equipment manufacturers to manage the e-waste that consumers throw away. Wipro also plans to educate its consumers about its products and the ways to control e-waste. The software firm will honour the Government policy and will take back the e-waste. Ramapati added that manufacturers of electronic goods, who have done well in the market, should accept the responsibility to recycle the waste or dispose of them. To prevent e-waste crisis, manufacturers must design clean electronics with longer lifespan and which are safe and easy to recycle. This would also prevent workers and the environment from being exposed to hazardous chemicals, he added. |
